Get 2 Know Your City LLC ("G2K," "we," "our," "us") operates the G2K Your City™ mobile application and website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use our services.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, username, and password (stored in hashed form only). During onboarding, we collect your age group to ensure compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Location Data

With your permission, we collect precise GPS location data for check-ins, map display, navigation, and geofence-based features. We also use approximate location for nearby place recommendations. Location data may be collected while the app is in the foreground and, if you grant "Always" permission, in the background for zone entry/exit detection.

User-Generated Content

We collect content you submit through the app, including place submissions, event submissions, photos (place photos, receipt snaps, profile avatars), reviews, and messages (direct and group).

Usage Data

We collect information about your interactions with the app, including check-ins, badge earnings, level progression, and page views. We also collect device information (OS version, device model), crash logs, and performance diagnostics to improve the app.

Purchase Information

If you subscribe to the Explorer Pass, your subscription status is recorded. All payment processing is handled by Google Play (Android) or Apple (iOS). We do not store your payment card details, billing address, or other financial information.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide core app functionality, including the map, check-ins, badges, and passport trails
  • Display your profile to other users (display name, level, badges)
  • Send push notifications for event reminders, friend requests, and achievements
  • Process and display your content submissions after approval
  • Improve app performance, diagnose issues, and fix bugs
  • Generate aggregate, anonymous analytics for community insights and local economic development
  • Send location-based notifications about nearby places, events, and deals when you enter designated areas (with your permission)
  • Enforce our Terms of Service and ensure platform safety

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the app:

  • Supabase: Authentication, database, and file storage. Data is hosted in the United States.
  • Mapbox: Map display and navigation. Your location data is shared with Mapbox to render map tiles.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging: Push notifications. Your device token is shared with Firebase to deliver notifications.
  • Google ML Kit: Receipt text recognition for receipt snap features. All processing occurs entirely on your device - no image or text data is sent to Google.
  • Google Play Billing: Subscription management on Android devices.
  • Apple StoreKit: Subscription management on iOS devices.

4. Data Sharing

  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We do not share data with advertisers.
  • We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA/GAID).
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • Service Providers: We share limited data with the third-party services listed above, solely to operate the app.
  • Public Content: Events and places you submit may be displayed publicly on the platform after approval.
  • Aggregated Data: We may share anonymous, aggregated analytics (such as foot traffic patterns, peak hours, and popular areas) with community planning organizations and economic development partners. This data never contains personally identifiable information.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety.

5. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

  • Users must confirm they are 13 or older during onboarding.
  • Users under 13 are restricted to browse-only mode with no access to social features, messaging, or content submission.
  • Parental controls are available with PIN protection to manage a child's experience.
  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at info@g2kyourcity.com.

6. Data Security

  • All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/HTTPS.
  • Authentication is managed by Supabase with industry-standard security practices.
  • Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.
  • Row-level security (RLS) policies are enforced on all database tables.

While we implement robust security measures, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

  • Account data is retained while your account is active.
  • You may request account deletion at any time.
  • Upon receiving a deletion request, we will remove your personal data within 30 days.
  • Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained indefinitely for historical trend analysis and community planning purposes.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (available in-app via your Profile).
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Opt out of push notifications via your device's Settings.
  • Opt out of location tracking via your device's Settings. Note that some app features require location access to function.

9. Your Choices & Location Controls

You are in control of the data the app collects:

  • Location Permission: You can grant or revoke location access at any time through your device's Settings. Revoking location permission will stop all location-based data collection, including zone entry/exit tracking and place visit analytics.
  • Background Location: The app may request "Always" location permission to detect when you enter geographic zones while the app is not actively open. You can change this to "While Using the App" or "Never" in your device's Settings at any time.
  • Notifications: You can disable push notifications in your device's Settings.

10. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management on the website. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

12. Governing Law

This privacy policy and your use of G2K Your City™ are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under this policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Vance County, North Carolina.
